SUNY/CUNY Tuition Credit Update for 2012-13
HESC currently calculates tuition credits for full-time and part-time students based on the annual base tuition amount reported to HESC on the college survey. Beginning with the 2012-13 academic year, HESC will implement system changes to the calculation of tuition credits for full-time students and only calculate the tuition credit if the actual semester tuition reported during the certification process is greater than or equal to $2,500. Students certified for a part-time award will not receive a tuition credit, pursuant to §689-a of the Education Law. No changes will be made to tuition credits calculated for the 2011-12 academic year.
Students who are eligible for TAP along with other educational benefits covering tuition, such as the Regents Award for Children of Deceased or Disabled Veterans (CV award), will only receive a tuition credit if the total of all awards is lower than the tuition. Students whose awards are equal to or greater than the tuition will not receive a tuition credit if these other educational benefits, covering tuition, are reported to HESC during the certification process.
