Guidance for Excelsior Scholarship

The Excelsior Scholarship requires that a student complete at least 30 credits each year (successively), applicable toward his or her degree program.

However, there are a number of programs leading to an associate’s degree in two years or a bachelor’s degree in four years that follow different sequencing which do not enable students to meet the requirements outlined for the Excelsior Scholarship. A student who enrolls in such a program and adheres to the program's prescribed credit requirements is eligible for an Excelsior Scholarship.

In addition, a student who enrolls in a program that is structured to begin only in a spring or fall term, and who had a break in attendance for the term prior to the start of such program, will be considered to have an allowable interruption of study.
