Award Calculation

To be considered for a Non-degree Part-time TAP award, students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the NYS Student Aid Payment Application (TAP application).

Upon receiving your Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) award estimate, please note that this figure represents the amount you would be eligible to receive if you were enrolled as a full-time student. As a part-time student, your educational institution will adjust this award amount proportionally, taking into account both the full-time award figure and the number of credits you are registered for. Your TAP benefits will be prorated, based on your credit load.

Spring 2024 Application Process

The 2023-24 TAP application is open now through June 30, 2024. To apply for TAP for the 2023-24 academic year start with the FAFSA.

New York State (NYS) residents attending NYS schools can link directly to the TAP application from the FAFSA submission confirmation page.

Didn't Apply for TAP for the 2023-24 academic year through the FAFSA?

If you exited the FAFSA before completing the TAP application – and you filled in your New York State address and a New York State college on the FAFSA – HESC will automatically receive your information in about three days.  HESC will then send you an email or postcard with directions to complete the TAP application online.
