College Interviews

Most colleges do not require interviews as part of the application process, but some do. Others may offer interviews but not require them.  Some colleges may allow interviews via video or phone.

If given the option, take the opportunity to interview.  It can really help determine if you and the college are a good fit.

It's up to you to check with the colleges you are interested in to find out about their interview policies and coordinate any interview you do.

College interviews give the admissions representatives a chance to get to know you better. Interviews also allow you to demonstrate your interest in the college, share additional information about yourself, discuss anything on your transcript and ask questions.

Be prepared to answer questions such as why you want to go to college, why you are interested in this college, and how you would like to contribute to the campus community.

Prepare questions of your own. You may want to ask about professors in a certain field, specific options for majors or study abroad, and more detail about their student profile.  Try not to ask questions that are easily answered on the college's website.

Remember these important interview tips:

• Dress neatly.
• Be on time.
• Be courteous and polite.
• Be honest.
• Send a thank you note after your interview.
