Using HESC's Authentication System (HescPIN)

HESC's Authentication System verifies your identity, serves to protect your non-public personal information, and provides you with a HESC User ID and PIN. You must use HESC's Authentication System to participate in various on-line transactions including: TAP on the Web; viewing your TAP status; reviewing and changing data used in the processing of your TAP application; requesting duplicate TAP forms; completing an e-MPN or PLUS e-MPN; viewing and printing your electronically signed MPN; viewing your loan status; viewing your defaulted loan repayment status; viewing your New York Higher Education Loan Program (NYHELPs) status; completing a scholarship application or loan forgiveness award for the following: Flight 587 Memorial Scholarship; Military Service Recognition Scholarship (MSRS); NYS Memorial Scholarships for Families of Deceased Firefighters, Volunteer Firefighters, Police Officers, Peace Officers, and Emergency Medical Service Workers; NYS World Trade Center Memorial Scholarship; Licensed Social Workers Loan Forgiveness Program; NYS Math & Science Teaching Incentive Program; District Attorney and Indigent Legal Services Attorney Loan Forgiveness Program; Regents Awards for Children of Deceased and Disabled Veterans; Veterans Tuition Awards; Senator Patricia K. McGee Nursing Faculty Scholarship; NYS Nursing Loan Forgiveness Program; Flight 3407 Memorial Scholarship; and John R. Justice Student Loan Repayment Program.

The HescPIN registration process will involve the use of HESC’s ISIR database to confirm and validate your identity and, if necessary, the use of Equifax’s Authentication Service (EAS).

When you select or are assigned a PIN and USER ID, you must not share or disclose this PIN, USER ID or secure access procedure to others, and you will notify HESC in the event that your PIN or USER ID is lost or compromised. You will contact the HESC Customer Communications Center by telephone toll-free at 1-888-NYS-HESC (1-888-697-4372) or 1-518-473-1574 during the hours of 8:00 AM to 4:45 PM Eastern time Monday through Friday.

HESC's Customer Service and HELP Desk staff have limited ability to assist you during HESC's Authentication process. For example, these HESC employees cannot reveal or remind you of your HESC USER ID and/or PIN, nor can they provide you with any account information that you would be able to access using your HESC USER ID and/or PIN. These HESC employees are available to assist you with technical problems that arise with the HESC Authentication system, and provide basic customer service assistance. Your HESC USER ID and PIN will be provided via a secure online session that is established when your browser connects to HESC's authentication system. The secure connection is noted by the status of the "lock" symbol on your browser interface.
